Sounds of shoppers at Target: voices in the background, boxes being moved around on shelves. A young couple is talking.

GIRL: Diapers cost like $60 a month. That’s ridiculous.

BOY: Wait, what? What are you talking about?

GIRL: I’m just trying to plan for the future.

Beethoven’s 5th Symphony starts playing.

BOY: But—

GIRL:   How do you feel about this stroller? Maybe I’d want one with two seats, just in case.

BOY:    Um, am I missing something?

GIRL:   Well no, but you never know what could happen.

BOY:    So—

GIRL:   Look at this car seat! It’s easy to get in and out of the car and it even has an anti-rebound bar to keep a baby in place in case we got in a crash.

BOY:    Wait—

GIRL:   The straps adjust easily, the canopy extends for extra sun protection and it even has little booties for the feet to go in. It’s perfect! Well… it costs $217, but I’m sure it’s worth it.

BOY:    Or…

Song fades into Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro” overture

BOY:    I could spend $2.50 on a condom.

GIRL:   What?

ANNCR: Car seat, stroller, a year of diapers: $900. A Durex condom: $2.50. Which would you prefer?
